Yes, it's thrifty thursday again...
...on a Friday
Cause that's how I roll. I'm a rebel!
Actually, it's been a busy week with the first week of school and talk of babies in this house. Oh yes, my kids (my daughter especially) has been talking/asking questions/inquiring about the specifics/making guesses as to just how many babies will end up in my tummy! hehe Just for the record - my doctor doesn't put more than 3 embryos in at once so you won't be seeing another Octomon on this blog!!

Ok, back to today's thrifty project. I've been eying this gold frame at the thrift market for about a month. Finally, I just snatched it up (for 9 bucks).
And actually, this was from my friend Lisa's booth who is right next to mine :)
The only thing that kept me from buying it up until now is that I didn't know what I wanted to do with it. Here's a tip on thrifting - if you see something you like and it's a good deal but you don't know what to do with it - buy it.
So first I painted it white. By the way, I highly recommend using primer first. It really helps the paint to adhere to the surface of what you're painting.
I only had to do one coat of primer and one coat of paint. I didn't worry about covering up the mirror because I was going to paint over that with chalkboard paint anyway.
I had some of this chalkboard paint leftover from another project. It took 3 coats to make the chalkboard look good.
Now, had I thought ahead it probably would have been easier to do the chalkboard first, then cover that up and spray paint the outside.
That looked pretty...but a little plain. So I added a burlap & fabric flower...
That's better :)

Very nice and you are right, it needed a touch of something. The flower was perfect.
Wow! I found you from my lil' sisters blog and what a treat! I LOVE this idea! It would be perfect in my daughters bedroom. What a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing (with those of us...ehemm.. ME...who don't come up with these great ideas on our own!).

This is wonderful, Michelle!!! I love it and I love the touch of that flower in the corner. You should totally post a tutorial how you made it...hint, hint...:-)
