Today Show - Miss America Controversy (4/21/09)

I'm sure most of you have heard about the Miss USA pageant controversy. I am absolutely floored at this "judge" (and I use that term very loosely) and his comments about Miss California.

First of all, that question was out of line, plain and simple.

But...

Since when in America are we not entitled to our opinions?

Since when in America are we not entitled to stand up for our beliefs?

I'm sure Mr. Hilton feels that it is his right to stand up for his "beliefs" (whatever those may be). So why can't anyone else? Just because they don't agree with his??

I think it is SO great that Miss California has stood up for her beliefs, her morals and her faith. That she didn't waver. That she realized that this was a test from God on whether or not she succumb to pressure or stand up for what she believed in. Good for her.

And Mr. Hilton, the names that you called her simply because she didn't agree with you show just exactly what kind of person you are. There is no "perfect" Miss USA Mr. Hilton.

I think she passed with flying colors, don't you?? I wish more people were like her.

Spread the word to end the word

Taken from Parker's website:

It is time to “Spread the Word to End the Word,” and on Tuesday, 31 March, events throughout the United States and around the world will make people stop and think about their hurtful and disparaging use of the word “retard.”

It’s time for a NEW R Word. Respect.

Based on his "special Olympics" comment, maybe our new president should see this video, too.

long time no post...and a rant on the prez

I can't believe it's been almost a week since I've really posted anything! Lots happening over the weekend. My good friend Elizabeth came to visit and her and her kids stayed with us. Good fun!! All the while Olivia was fighting some kind of illness, not sure if it was the flu, a virus, or what. Then Saturday Ben starting coming down with the flu and is still sick. Saturday night I had my Twilight movie night with the girls :) Then Sunday I took a trip to the pediatric after hours with Ben. Monday we all stayed home with the sickies. Today we're on the mend, Olivia went back to school, Ben's still sick but somewhat getting better, and I'm just tired from lack of sleep and fighting allergies. Dang that stupid pollen!!! Go away already!!

So I'll be back later with photos and scrappy stuff (hopefully later today!)

I'll leave you with a post that I had started before but hadn't posted yet. Yes, another rant. You love me for it, you know you do!!! Hey, if people don't talk about this stuff, how is it going to get out there??
*****************************************
Once again Mr. President you have managed to screw the average, hard working American in your effort to make the rich pay even more (even though they already pay 95% of the ENTIRE taxes in this country). Now, I imagine they'll donate less to charitable and non-profit organizations. Is that what you really want?? Then again, who knows what you really want. By the way prez, are you aware that this small percentage of rich individuals in America make up the majority of charitable contributions in this country?? Now, far be it for me to defend the rich (cause I'm certainly not anywhere near being one of them) but when it affects me I'm gonna say something.

Just one step backwards in finding a cure for Crohns, Colitis, and all other diseases. Cause you know, you can't find a cure without money.

I'm dumbfounded (as I am about most of your choices).

Thanks Mr. President. {insert sarcasm here}

****************************************************************************************
On February 26th, President Obama sent his first budget proposal to Congress. The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America applauds the President's commitment to reviving the economy and reforming our health care system. However, the budget also contains a proposal that would send the wrong message at the wrong time to those who support nonprofit organizations like CCFA.
The Administration is proposing to limit the federal tax deduction that individuals earning more than $250,000 may claim for charitable contributions. Currently, individuals making over $250,000 receive either a 33 percent deduction or a 35 percent deduction depending on their individual tax bracket. The President's proposal would limit all charitable deductions for individuals earning over $250,000 to 28 percent. This tax policy change would effectively devalue charitable gifts made by the very people who are in a position to make substantial donations, at a time when they are desperately needed. Given the potentially devastating impact of this budget provision on charitable giving, CCFA joins with other nonprofit organizations in strongly opposing the President's proposal.

Are you kidding me?

Don't they have better things to talk about? Like the economy, abortion, war, terrorism??? Apparently telling viewers about this for the last year was not enough notice.

National Sanctity of Human Life Day, 2009

To borrow the post from Kelly:

Say what you will about George W. Bush as president of the United States. He was not a perfect president, nor were any before him (those after him will not be either). But I tip my hat to him for having the common sense to declare that every human being, born and yet-to-be-born, deserves protection as a gift from our Creator.

John McCain is on the phone!!!

Ok, after that last post I thought I'd post something funny.

The day of the election the phone rang all day. I mean ALL DAY. Phone calls from local political people and those from the RNC. One of the times the phone rang in the afternoon the message started "Hi, this is John McCain..." and my daughter who knows all 4 people who were running in the election comes RUNNING into my scrap room and says all excitedly "John McCain is on the phone!!!" So I had to tell her "oh baby, that's just a recorded message" And her kinda bummed out response was "oh..." Too funny!!! She just cracked me up.

I feel very proud that my 6 year old daughter knew all 4 people running for President and VP. I did not discuss details with her. She knows we voted for McCain but not why. I told her that they were all good people but we just agree with one over the other.

rejected...

Some of your comments, that is.

I am always amazed at how ugly some people can be. This is MY blog. These are MY thoughts and MY feelings. If you don't like them DON'T READ.

I don't go around telling people they are awful people because they voted for Obama. I know people who voted for him. They are all still my friends. I assume all of you that made comments to this post, also came here from Ali's blog. And if you read my comment on her blog, then you know that I was very respectful of her views. I disagreed but I was RESPECTFUL. I'm not going to ban her blog, I'm not going to tell people to not go there. In fact, I made a comment to someone elses comment about that.

And no, I did not vote for McCain on the sole abortion issue. I do not believe in socialized medicine. As a person with a life-long, incurable disease this scares me beyond belief. Because I would have died 2 years ago had I been on socialized medicine. Check the facts. People die unnecessarily on socialized medicine. I do not believe in socialized economics. I believe that if you work hard and earn your money you should keep it (after paying your *fair* share of taxes, that is). I believe in helping out the poor. I believe in helping out those less fortunate. I do not believe in just giving out handouts. I give to charities, I donate my time, I GIVE. I did my homework before I voted. I voted based on proven history and experience, not just what someone "said" they'd do.

So, if you do not believe in what I say, or do not like it, then don't come here. No one forced you to come read my blog. No one twisted your arm. You *chose* to read my blog. If you don't agree, click to somewhere else. I don't judge you. I don't call you names. Have the same respect.

And no, I will not publish your comments. Not because you don't agree with me, but because you couldn't say it respectfully.

very sad

I am very sad today. I have cried. For the first time I have cried over an election. Not because McCain did not win the election. But because I have realized that it is apparently ok to be dishonest. It is ok to have a questionable past and to even hide parts of it. It is ok to lie and tell people what they want to hear because not only is it ok but you will be rewarded for it. Because you will not be judged by your true character but by what you tell people you are. Being a war hero apparently doesn't matter. Making the right decisions when no one is looking doesn't matter. People think you're "milking" the fact that you were a POW. How insulting to all those that serve and have served for this country. Christian family values lost. True American spirit and values lost. And yet, my husband has to, at times, put his life in jeopardy for people who probably don't even appreciate it or care. It makes me sad.
