funky junk & other treasures

A couple weeks ago I headed over to the Funky Junk Antique Show in Sandpoint, ID. It was my birthday present to myself. No big kids. Just me & Addie....and QUIET uninterrupted time to enjoy one of my favorite things...thrifting & antiquing. It was wonderful :)

The drive was about an hour and a half so not too bad. The show wasn't huge but the people there were so nice. 

And... I found something I'd been looking for for quite a while.

An old kitchen scale. And it's BLUE!!!

Isn't she purty??! She's currently sitting on my kitchen counter with some cookbooks on top.

I paid a bit more than I would've liked but other than some rust it was in great shape. And sometimes when you find exactly what you're looking for you have to just grab it!

I found a few other treasures, like vintage ledgers.

These ones have little papers from the post office inside with date stamps from the 50s.

And some sugar sacks. These are going to be made into pillows.

And while I was there...and without big kids...I decided to hit up a few other local antique shops & found a few more treasures.

That towel isn't 'vintage' but I loved the look. Totally gonna make that into a pillow. I really, really, REALLY wanted this vintage A&W Root Beer crate that I found. It was orange on the side with brown writing. I was envisioning a cute little fall setup inside the crate on my front porch. But they were asking $24. 

what the what???!! 

I find it hilarious that sometimes people seem to think that just because something is old that it's worth a lot of money. So I walked out without that one :(

The other day I was coming home from taking the kids to school & came across 'Vintage Sale' signs. Well, I was all over that one, lemme tell ya! hee And I discovered some more great finds, like this ah-DOR-able little bench.

Yes, I could've done this myself. However, it would've cost me over 1/2 of what I paid just to redo a bench like this. And this one was uber cute so I couldn't pass it up :)

I know it's hard to tell in the photo, but the bench is painted a pretty light blue. Of course! And I just loved the chenille fabric on top...haven't seen that before.


And here's a few more finds from that sale...

I'm going to cover those wooden spools with some fabric scraps.

And then I found some great stuff over at a store called Real Deals. They're only open twice a week. My friend Theresa met me over there last week & I snatched up some new goodies :)

I love new things that look vintage-y.


And last but not least, I found this great rug at a local shop.

I paid $11 which may not seem like a deal but I know from the local sewing store that it takes about 9-10 yards of fabric to make one of these knotted rugs. So even at $3/yd it would cost $27-30 to make.


And considering it had my favorite colors...turquoise & green...I had to snatch it up!


Well, I think that's it for now. I looooove living in an area that is into antiques. I'm in heaven :) I have company in town for Addie's baptism this weekend but I'm getting some posts ready to go up for the rest of the week while we're busy with that.

new in the shop!

I've been working on some fun stuff for the shop that I'm really excited to share! I like to dabble in all kinds of craftiness...sewing, scrapbooking, home decor, etc. So when I opened up 24 Olive Street I had intentions on sharing a little bit of all of that.

So here's a few fun things that are new to the shop:

I am in love with these fun little tea towels that I've been working on. This fabric just speaks to me in my favorite color combination. And what better use for that key lime basket than for some cute towels?! There is a listing for the basket with towels along with a separate listing for just the towels. But I only have 2 baskets so once they're gone, they're gone!

I also made this cute quilted purse from those same wonderful fabrics:

This purse is a made to order item ~ meaning, it will be crafted after time of purchase. Wait time is 5-7 days (but usually less than that).

And remember this 2 tier metal stand??

Well I found another one!! So, you guessed it, I gave it a new coat of key lime green paint and it's in the shop!

I may have a small addiction to key lime green paint right now :)

Do you remember this printer's tray summer photo collage I made a couple months back??

Well, I'm so excited that I managed to snag up a few more of these great trays while on my thrifting trips, so I put together a few kits. And each one will be different. I've already sold the large kit but there's still 2 smaller printer's tray kits left.

I love collecting vintage books, cards, etc and I'll be putting together listings for some fun goodies..

new vintage goodies

I've been on a mission lately to find vintage goodies. For myself, and for my etsy shop. And I just listed a bunch of fun goodies this weekend! It's funny, I never used to consider myself a 'vintage' person. But now I can't get enough of it!! Funny how your tastes in things change over the years.

turkeys & bunnies & chickens, oh my! (and other flea market finds)

We headed out to the flea market again, this time it was just me & Olivia. We got there early, although not as early as I'd hoped. And was it packed. And I mean packed!! I had no idea this flea market was this big since the time I drove by it before was in the afternoon when most sellers were gone. It was super hot. In fact, I got burnt. But it's all good. I managed to come home with some goodies and we had fun, too :)

Seriously people, we're talking HOT outside!

And here's some of our finds for the day...

hehe, Holly Hobbie Christmas glasses!!! I think I might have let out a girly squeal or 2 when I saw these :) The guy had the old McDonald's glasses, too. It was like taking a stroll down memory lane...

Seriously, these were too cute to pass up. Then I found someone I was hoping to find...vintage bottles.

The guy had 2 huge bins full of them. May have to go visit him again. I think the brown one was a medicine bottle. Notice the Listerine bottle on the right? Did you know Listerine bottles used to have a cork? I didn't. Too bad this one didn't still have it. But that cute skinny one did.

Some old music books from the 1920's and a children's book. I really liked that children's books for the pictures...perfect for scrapbooking.

And, of course, Olivia managed to find some treasures of her own:

2 books for a buck each and that Littlest Pet Shop toy for 2 bucks!!

Got this for free (just cause the guy was packing up and overheard Olivia say it was cute!)

And finally, I found this for Ben. A light that hooks onto a baseball cap. It's supposed to be for hunting or fishing (go figure) but I knew he'd have fun with it.

And all of that stuff set me back $14. Not too shabby. Oh, and one more thing about the flea market (and I don't know why this surprised me) but there were many people selling chickens, turkeys, puppies, bunnies, whatever (hence that first picture). Now you know you're at a flea market in east AL when the lady selling bunnies says "if I don't sell 'em today they're goin' on the grill" eeek!! Thankfully Olivia didn't hear that one! Or if she did, I don't think she understood. hehe oh how I love the south ;)

Since we were already in AL and only about 20 min from Opelika, we figured we'd head over to World Market. Ok, I talked Olivia into it by getting her McDonalds and telling her it was a 20 minute air conditioned ride. I could seriously do some damage to the pocketbook in that store!! But I was good...did a lot of looking but very little buying (less than 5 bucks to be exact). But here are some of my faves.

For some reason, I always gravitate towards this stuff:

Oh how I wish I could have just one of each! I was good, only bought one jar. (3rd row up from the bottom, all the way on the right with the cork stopper in it)

And these cuties, oh my

And I thought these would be so fun for those popcorn gift pouches and gift sets I sometimes make for teachers

I think the big ones were like $7 for 6 of them. How fun would that be to fill for a "movie night" gift set. Hmmm....

Christmas gift maybe???? Couldn't you see using these on Christmas Eve? Don't forget the matching shakers.
