Online crop, travel book

I'm participating in an online crop tomorrow over at Scrap Etc. Come join us!! I've never done a crop "online" before so this should be fun. I persuaded my hubby to give me the day to scrap since my birthday is coming up this week. Ugh, we won't even talk about my age! lol It's all good!!!

Anyway, if you head over there and register, sign up for the Labor Day crop and *pretty please* tell them I sent you (my username over there is Michelle*Ga). The person with the most members referred gets a prize. And I love a good contest!!! Click here to check it out.

Also, here's a sneak peek of a travel/vacation album that I'm listing on ebay tonight.

Hope to "see" you at the crop!!!

you know you're blessed

when your son comes home from preschool with picture for you that looks like this:

and says "See all the hearts mommy? That's how much I love you!" Yep, my heart just melted at that point!! I treasure these days because there will come a day that I won't get that "I love you" as freely as I get it now. So I savor every moment!

And don't you just love his stick figure people?!! It cracks me up every time!

Well, other than doing a little cleaning I've been mostly unproductive this week. Hopefully that will change this weekend. But I thought I'd share with you some of my fall favs right now. Kinda like my "scrapbooking wish list"!!

Scenic Route Sonoma
Making Memories Fa la la
SEI Poppy
Cosmo Cricket Mr. Campy
BoBunny Holiday Cheer
(this paper reminds me of Whoville for some reason!)
That's just a few of my favorite things right now! There's more but this post would be 10pgs long if I listed everything!!!

Have a great day everyone :)

Disney Autograph Books

I know I've shown these books on my previous blog but someone asked me for more photos of these. These were the autograph books my kids took to Disneyworld last December. I used 7 Gypsies books because I wanted a spiral bound book that I would be able to open and fold over so that the characters could easily sign them. I made these books very simple. I knew that they would be handled A LOT; that they'd be in and out of bags constantly, handled by little fingers, sitting on tables with food during character meals, etc. So I made sure that they were cute yet simple. As you can probably see in some of the photos, there's pen marks (and probably food, too!) on the pages.

My son's book was made with the more traditional Disney papers. I just made diagonal strips of paper to do the cover. I didn't cover it with mod podge but I may do that next time to make it a little more durable.
I didn't add a ton of ribbon on the wire so that it stayed easy to open. Inside the book I again left it very simple. On each page, I put a simple photo mat on one side and left the other side blank for the autograph. I purposely did not put any embellishments or make each page character specific because I knew that we would see tons of characters (which we did!) and I didn't want the books to be limited to specific ones. Also, the more stuff you put inside the book, the lumpier it is and it makes it more difficult for the characters to sign the book.

My daughter's book was, of course, a bit more girly. Her only request was to have Sleeping Beauty on the front.

As you can see compared to the photo above, the ribbon used to be a little different. What I found was that the ribbon kept coming loose from opening and closing. Next time I won't put ribbon down the front, but just on the wire part.

Inside, I did the same thing as my son's book - photo mat on one side, blank on the other. Her book had a few pockets to hold momentoes, park maps, etc. I think I may use these ones for both next time. As you can see, some of the characters signed sideways because it was easier to hold the book that way which quite honestly didn't matter to me. We're not going for perfection here!

In both books I left the last 5 pgs or so blank so that I could either let characters sign both sides (with no photo) or add a photo mat later.

I really enjoyed making these for my kids and they did, too. They thought they were pretty special to have the only autograph books at Disney like these ones! I also saved money and they were able to fit more autographs in these books. Don't get me wrong, the books at Disney are cute. But the book Olivia used last time only held 15 photos/autographs and I think cost around $13-$15. Her "mommy made" book held 25 photographs/autographs and the books only cost around $5-7 (plus papers). I think next time I'm going to use my Bind-It-All to make their books.

I also made a travel book for myself and I have some photos of that in my Two Peas gallery. You can click here to see it. If anyone wants to see more photos just leave me a comment!

cleaning today

yep, it's that time again.

Time to clean the scrap room.

Why is it that it stays clean for a while and then all of a sudden...like overnight...it looks like a cyclone ran through here!! Once I get things cleaned up in here I have some projects that I'm working on that I'll share in the next few days. So for now, I thought I'd share with you a little fall mini-album I made last year.

All of the papers are Reminisce. I've said it before but my kids *love* looking through these little books. So much so that the "l" is now missing from the book. I've glued it back on once before but it is lost again. Oh well, it doesn't matter. I'd rather have my books looked through than sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Scrapbooks are meant to be enjoyed, right?!! Some of my mini-albums sit in a basket on the table in my scrap room:

Other ones, usually the newest ones, sit in a basket in my living room. I like having them out. They make me smile!

Oh, and I got to use these beauties last night. I made homemade spaghetti sauce for the first time and it was really, really good!!! I think I need about 20 tomato plants next year (at least)!!! It was a little more time consuming to make this way but so worth it. I just wish I had more tomatoes to make more!!

Happy Wednesday everyone!!

sun, beautiful sun!

Yep, the sun is shining...finally!! Then again, along with the sun comes hot temps and humidity. But that's ok. I'll take a break from the constant rain. Boy, I was a downer yesterday wasn't I?? I know I don't normally post stuff like that but yesterday I just felt like it. Cause that's life. And this blog is about more than just scrapbooking and cards. I say it right in the title...scraps of life. So there it is ~ in it's "not always so pretty" glory!

Anyway, I thought I'd share with you a few things I made today. I finally pulled out my Zutter Bind-it-All that I bought last month when we were in Knoxville. Can I just say that I love this machine!! I got a great deal (big smile) on it at the local scrapbook store there. Boy I miss that store!! I'm always amazed at every time I go back there they've managed to add more stuff to the store! Anyway, with the rain coming down in a torrential downpour this morning I thought I'd make some post it note holders.

Aren't they cute?!! I would have preferred to use the red striped ribbon but I didn't have any. I can't wait to get some of the new SU! designer series paper. I'm thinking...teacher gifts! Yep, in the Christmas mood. I can't help it!

I also made a matching jumbo paper clip to match

I'm sending this to my step-mom along with this card for her birthday

I know the picture isn't super bright. I took it before the sun was fully out this morning. But you get the idea.

For those of you coming to my open house next month, you'll get to see fun projects like these :)

And I think I'll play with my new toy some more! That's it for now. Have a great day everyone!!

**By the way, my auction for Parker's layout ends tonight. Be sure to bid!!!**

rainy day...

I don't really have anything fun to post today. It's a rainy day, has been for days. And I guess my mood today kind of goes along with the weather....gloomy & blah. Do things just always seem like they all pile up on you at once? I hate how that happens. It seems like I've learned some lessons these past few weeks (and months) that I thought I had already learned years ago. I guess God thought I needed a refresher course! I have learned that people that you consider a friend may not always hold that relationship to the same importance (I've learned this one many times). I've learned that just because you do things for a friend, take time out of your day to do something for others, that it is not always reciprocated (or appreciated). Most importantly, I have learned that there are many things in this life that I cannot control. Despite this, we keep pluggin' along. Because God's plan for each of us is greater than these trivial bumps in this road called life. And there are those out there with much bigger bumps in their road than mine.

post for Abby

For the rest of you, Abby is the daughter of my really good friend Kellie (also seen in the movie buddies layout!)

Abby, I have added a few Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana songs to my playlist :)

I've also added a few more songs and taken some out.

waiting for Fall

It's a bit cooler here today ~ mid-70s, breezy, and a bit overcast. It's a welcome change for me. I'm just so tired of 90 degree weather. Hey Mother Nature, you can send fall temps here any time!! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year.

I love when we change the clocks back and it starts getting dark around dinner time,
fires in the fireplace (or outside),
my pumpkin spice candle burning in the kitchen,
long sleeved shirts,
pumpkins,
all that fun stuff that comes with fall.

Then again, we don't really get cool temps here in southern GA til practically winter but a girl can hope! Hey, I grew up in Michigan where you planned your Halloween costume around trying to wear a winter coat underneath! Here in GA you wouldn't even think of wearing a fleece costume! My kids have such a different childhood from mine, on so many levels.

Well, you would think with the cooler temps we'd be outside. But no, Ben has a temperature so we've stayed in today... playing with Legos, watching Super Y, playing video games,

Oh, and we stared at lizards on the back porch...

You'd think our puppy would be used to the lizards...and frogs...and all the other critters that crawl around our yard. But when I heard her attacking my blinds I knew there was something outside...and I'd better pull the blinds up before she destroyed them! We've already learned from the bite marks in the dining room blinds. All in all though, she's a good pup. And I can't believe she's almost 2!

On another subject, I decorated this notebook and card for a friend of mine. Hopefully she doesn't read this blog before she gets it :) The notebook came from Target. The papers are Bali Breeze ~ retired from the last Stampin' Up! catalog. Trying to use up some of my papers before I get more. The chipboard flowers were cut with my Sizzix.

And then there's this super duper cute material that I found at Hobby Lobby the other day. I got it on sale and paid less than $5 for all of it. In case you haven't sensed it yet, I love a good deal. I'm always paroosing the clearance racks, sale bins, etc. I very rarely pay full price for just about anything, especially scrapbook stuff and kids clothes. Just wait til you see how much I spent on my daughter's Halloween costume! But that's for a later post...

Anyway, I'm planning on using this material to decorate my oh-so-unfashionable grocery bags.

No offense Publix, but I really don't like running around, store to store, with your big green logo on my bag. I appreciate that you sell these great, eco-friendly bags for just a buck, but I want something a little bit cuter (especially when I take them to the mall!) I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them. I'm thinking just strips of material on the front, maybe squares, I don't know. Anything to make them cuter! So if they turn out cute, I'll share a photo. If not, well, use your imagination!

Well, that's it for now my blogging friends. Another reminder that Parker's layout is still up on ebay. You can click here to head over there and place a bid (and there's free shipping with this auction)!!

Layout for Parker

Some of you have seen me mention Parker before. I discovered Parker's website a few months back while blog browsing. Once I saw his cute little face I found myself checking his site a few times a week to see what he was up to and how he is doing. In case you have not visited his site, Parker is a little boy with special needs and mounting medical bills. While I don't know what it's like to have a child with needs like his, I do know first hand what it's like to have unexpected medical bills. Two years ago I did not expect to end up in the hospital for a week, nor did I expect to spend months recovering and the added stress of medical bills that seemed to end up in my mailbox every week. So ever since I have discovered Parker, I have felt the need to help him and his family. And what better way than through the scrapbooking community!

So, I have created this fun fall layout and I have it up for auction on ebay. All of the proceeds will go to Parker's medical fund. I would urge you to head over there and make a bid. You never know when life can throw you a curve ball and you may be in a similar situation needing other people's help. And hey, you'll be getting an adorable layout and helping out a sweet family! Click here to check it out.

Deer Friends

I know, you're probably thinking it's too early for Christmas cards. But hey, when you get a new stamp set you have to play with it, right?! And I am determined to get all my Christmas cards, shopping, school gifts, done before December. I'm usually pretty good about being ahead of things but I got a bit behind last year.

So anyway, this is one of the new hostess sets in the Stampin' Up! catalog that just came out. There's 8 images in the set. The best part? (well, one of the best parts) the stamp set is pre-cut! Yep, no cutting!! And these stamps are just so cute. I love stamp sets that are easy to work with, especially the round ones that you can use the circle and scallop punches with. Cause we all know that the scallop punch is one of my favorites!! Here's one of my daughter and the angel stamp. See, you don't have to get those photo cards from Wal-Mart. Make your own! Believe me, people love to get handmade cards.

In this card I used 4 of the images, stamped them in black, chocolate chip and always artichoke. I added Liquid Applique to Santa's hat and beard, red stickles to Rudolph and the gingerbread man, and green and gold stickles to the Christmas tree. Then I popped them all up with pop dots. I think this one is my favorite.

Here's another one just using the deer stamp. I made Rudolph stand out from his reindeer friends by adding red Stickles to his nose and popping him up with pop dots. Gotta love those pop dots!! Notice I used the new scallop border punch on this one :)

And here's a really simple one cause frankly, sometimes you just want a simple card!

Are you sensing a favorite color scheme?! For some reason I was in the red/brown mood today. I'll have to mix it up and make some more cards with different colors tomorrow :)

And with that I'm off to do "mom" duties!

trying something new

I found this cute blog template so I thought I'd try it out. I couldn't resist that cute birdie :) I had to reload just about everything so it may take me a few days to make sure all the links work right. I know it seems a little busy...it didn't look that way til I added all my junk to it! So we'll see how it goes...but so far I like it! Let me know what you think....all of you that are out there reading my blog, come out of hiding!! lol

6:15am comes way too soon

I mean really, I so do not like getting up this early. I'm such a night owl. I'd be happy to stay up til 3 in the morning and then sleep til 10. But unfortunately that's not how the world works! Well, when I'm president things will change!! lol

Here's a few of the layouts I worked on with my Studio Calico kit.

I added some dimensional glaze to the drops on the paper to make them look like water droplets. I think this is one of my favorite layouts :) My daughter was only 3 1/2 yrs old in those pictures and she *loved* taking a bath in my tub. We'd put a bunch of bubble bath in it and turn on the jets. The bubbles would be overflowing!! Plus, it was a way for me to get ready and keep her occupied at the same time. Worked out well!

Oh, and check out what was waiting in my mailbox today. How cute is that scalloped edge!! And the big brown truck should be stopping by my house again today with some Stampin' Up! goodies! They came out with a cute new scallop border punch that I can't wait to try. And, of course, the new Sizzix dies ~ yes Sizzix. Can you believe it?! I love that SU! is getting more into scrapbooking.

TTFN!

new goodies

Well, my new goodies arrived from the big brown truck yesterday!

I worked on some pages today but unfortunately I ran out of light to take pictures. So I'll have to share those tomorrow. But I will show you the frames my hubby made for my son's room. They're all finished...

These are the posters I mentioned that I bought when we went to Gatlinburg last month. You have no idea how hard it is to find bear posters! (I mean, ones that don't cost a fortune). I got these ones for $3 each. I bought poster frames on sale at Hobby Lobby for $10 (for both) so I could use the glass for the frames. The wood was leftovers we had in the garage and the stain cost less than $4. So my son has custom framed "art" for $20. Not bad! Especially considering the frames I really liked were $24 a piece (not including the posters or the glass). And they look so cute in his bear room!

Before I had a little boy I always thought it'd be more fun to have a girl. They have cute toys, cute clothes and cute rooms and all the "girly" stuff that goes along with it. But being the mom of a little boy for over 4 years now has taught me that boys are just as much fun! Good thing I have one of each!

worth reading

There is a post on 5 Minutes for Moms that is worth reading about the new Ben Stiller movie, Tropic Thunder. Please take a moment and head here to check it out. It's definitely worth your time to read.

waiting for the UPS man

I'll be doing a lot of that this week!! My Studio Calico kit comes today (yay!!) And my new Stampin' Up! goodies come on Wednesday. So I'm anxiously awaiting the sound of that big brown truck coming up my driveway. Til then I'll share with you a few other non-scrappy creative things.

Here's the new frames my hubby made for my son's room. We just redid his room with a bear theme (he has a big boy room now...sniff, sniff). I found this adorable quilt set on sale at Target and Ben & I just couldn't resist! I found some bear posters while we were in Gatlinburg and since my hubby had some scrap wood laying around he made the frames for me. And they look very woodsy, just like I wanted :) Thanks sweetie!!

And check out these cute bracelets my kids made for me yesterday. I swear, give them some beads and string and they'll be busy for hours!! (not too many things do that to my kids!!)

I'll leave you with picture of my son after his first day of Pre-K today. Yeah, that's a full blown nap attack! (that doesn't happen much in our house anymore!)

Oh, and I listed a few layouts on etsy. Mostly previous class samples. So if you need a few inexpensive layouts for your albums head on over there!

Well kids, it looks like it's gonna rain. And in my house that means blankets & pillows on the living room floor and pizza, popcorn and movies!!
